NIG ANNOUNCES SENIOR UK BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TEAM New Area Business Development Managers will spearhead NIG's ambition to double their share of the SME market


NIG has confirmed the appointments of the seven Area Business Development Managers heading up NIG’s trading and development activity across the UK.

Andy Jones, Pete Hale, Alan Kirkwood, Sandra Rynn, Mike Hayman, John Setterfield and Roger Marshall will be responsible for delivering strong trading relationships across the insurer’s UK broker partners to target SME and corporate businesses. NIG aims to become a top 3 SME insurer in the UK by doubling its share of the £10 billion SME market.

Andy Jones has been recruited to head up the Midland region and will be based in NIG’s Birmingham Office. He has worked in the insurance industry for 23 years in various underwriting and broker development roles.  He joins NIG from Primary General Insurance Ltd where he was Managing Director for Midlands and the South West Region.

Pete Hale is responsible for London and will be based in NIG’s Fenchurch Street office. He has over 20 years experience in the banking and insurance industries having previously held senior roles with Standard Life, CIS and Barclays. Pete joins NIG from another part of the RBS Group where he worked within the Corporate Banking Division leading relationship teams supporting SMEs.

Alan Kirkwood is responsible for managing the sales teams servicing the North West, Scotland and Northern Ireland. He has 21 years experience in the insurance industry, the last 15 years of which have been in senior business development roles with NIG.

Sandra Rynn started her career as an underwriter with Norwich Union in Newcastle and has 36 years experience in the industry. A well known figure to Newcastle brokers, Sandra joined NIG in 1997, initially working from home as a Senior Underwriter, and later set up NIG’s successful Ashington office. Sandra will be based in NIG’s Leeds office looking after an area extending from the North East of England to Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

Mike Hayman’s career spans over 30 years starting out as an underwriter with General Accident and later moving into senior underwriting and business development roles. Mike has worked all over the UK including Leeds, Birmingham and London with companies such as GA Bonus, CGU and Avon Insurance but has most recently been NIG’s Regional Manager for Wales. Mike’s new role gives him responsibility for the West of England and Wales and he will be based in NIG’s Bristol office.

John Setterfield will be based in NIG’s Maidstone office and is responsible for the South of England spanning an area from Kent to Sussex. Having starting his career with Orion Insurance as a commercial underwriter John’s 26 years in the insurance industry has seen him occupy senior positions with companies including AXA, GRE and Independent. John joined NIG in 2002.

Roger Marshall’s 30 year career has predominantly been spent in business development roles with insurers such as General Accident, CGU and Aviva, but he also gained useful insight during the 4 years he spent with a Manchester based broker. In his new role , Roger is responsible for NIG’s Thames Valley area  to include  the northern Home Counties  and East Anglia,  and is based at NIG’s  Watford  office.
